Residence DK R
Knokke - Belgium
Located in Knokke, one of Belgium's most renowned coastal towns, this project involved the complete renovation and merging of two adjacent apartments into a single residence overlooking the North Sea.
The design process began with a thorough analysis of circulation and spatial relationships. Rather than simply combining two apartments, the ambition was to transform them into a unified home with a clear sense of order and continuity.
The project embraces the belief that true luxury lies not in spectacle, but in atmosphere. It is an exercise in creating beauty through simplicity - spaces that feel effortless, calm, and timeless.
Material selections were closely informed by the apartment's unique setting on the Belgian coast and its uninterrupted views of the North Sea. Warm wood paneling establishes a sense of intimacy and permanence, while a continuous light border above the joinery visually softens the substantial beams introduced through the structural modifications. Travertino Classico, with its natural imperfections, veining, and subtle tonal variations, was chosen for its resemblance to the ever-changing patterns of wind-swept sand along the shoreline.
Rather than approaching the work as an artistic gesture, the design focuses on creating spaces where people feel at ease. The ambition is not to design places to possess, but places to inhabit - homes that support everyday life with quiet confidence and lasting comfort.
